Fun Family Day at Shoalhaven Zoo
If you’re looking for something to do that’s great for the whole family try a fun family day at Shoalhaven Zoo at North Nowra, just 20 minutes from South Coast Retreat at Greenwell Point
The Shoalhaven Zoo is privately owned and managed and set in 16 acres of bushland on the banks of the Shoalhaven River. It is the largest native and exotic zoo on the NSW South Coast and includes a fabulous café with great food and stunning views over the river to bush and farm lands beyond.
We go there frequently and love it every time. Our children especially love the Junior Zookeeper programs that are run each school holidays.
There is quite a variety of animals from snoozing wombats and koalas to crocodiles and snakes and now 4 sibling lions that were recently bought in from Zoodoo Zoo in Tasmania.
Don’t miss the opportunity to cuddle a koala or get all wrapped up in a friendly python and take the “Jungle Walk” along the back of the park – our kids’ favourite. The talks by the zoo keepers are extremely informative and because the zoo is (relatively) small you can get much closer to the animals – even touching and holding a few. Also there is a terrific farmyard where you can handle a variety of smaller farm animals.
On top of all that, Trees Adventure Nowra is situated next to the zoo so you can also book in for a chance to test your skills and balance through a variety of obstacle courses in the trees, fly through the air on their flying foxes and scramble along the rock face on Australia’s First Cliff Edge adventure park, also on the stunning banks of the Shoalhaven River.
